A quiet morning inside The Cottage Kitchen with warm light and a flat white

The Cottage Kitchen

A small kitchen with a big heart.

Tucked beside the University Library, we cook honest food and pour world-class coffee for neighbours, students, and friends we haven't met yet.

Our Story

Built from a loveof feeding people well.

A small bistro in the heart of St Andrews — built around a love of feeding people well. A student could read for hours over a flat white, a local could find the sourdough they actually wanted, and a friend in town could taste Scotland on a single plate.

Our day begins before the bells of St Salvator's. The ovens warm, the milk steams, and Wild Hearth sourdough arrives still humming from Perth. We work closely with David Henderson's butchers in Glenrothes, David Lowrie's fish merchants in St Monans, and Ivan Woods' greengrocers in Ballingry — so every plate is a short, traceable walk back to the Kingdom of Fife.

Hands We Trust

Five short drivesfrom our kitchen door.

Every supplier on this page is a phone call away. We know their names, their families, and what their van smells like on a Tuesday morning. That's the only way we know how to cook.

  1. 0130 miles west

    Wild Hearth Bakery

    Perth

    Sourdough, focaccia & morning loaves

Wood-fired, long-fermented loaves baked overnight and delivered before service. The crust under your eggs benedict.

  2. 0222 miles south

    David Henderson Butchers

    Glenrothes, Fife

    Free-range meats & smoked bacon

A third-generation Fife butcher whose dry-cured bacon is, frankly, why we have a brunch menu at all.

  3. 0312 miles south

    David Lowrie Fish Merchants

    St Monans, Fife

    Smoked salmon & day-boat fish

Smoked over oak in a working harbour cottage. The sea is a fifteen minute drive — you can taste it.

  4. 0426 miles south

    Ivan Woods & Sons

    Ballingry, Fife

    Greengrocery, herbs & seasonal veg

A family greengrocer who'll happily argue about tomatoes. Everything on the plate that grew started here.

  5. 0532 miles south

    The Roasting Project

    Burntisland, Fife

    Single-origin & house espresso

Roasted in a converted seafront workshop. We pour their beans through every cup that leaves our bar.

  6. Our promise

“If we can't shake the hand that grew it, we don't put it on the plate.”

We're proud to pour beans from The Roasting Project in Burnt Island, Fife — a small-batch roaster just across the Forth. Every shot is dialled twice a day, served at the temperature that lets the flavour notes sing.

A short letter, once a month.

New menus, supper clubs, the odd recipe, and the occasional very good coffee we've found. No spam. We'd hate that too.
